Dear Parent/Guardian:
Bay Head School provides a Human growth and development/Family Life Education program in accordance with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. The program is designed to equip the students with the knowledge needed to make good decisions in regards to human growth and development. Instruction is seen as a partnership between the student, the school, and the parent/guardian as our goal is always a solid school to home connection. Topics are covered and questions answered in an honest age appropriate manner.
This program will be starting on or about February 1st and is part of your childś health class. The girls classes will be taught by Mrs. Sierotko and the boys by Mr. Speelman. A brief outline of topics to be discussed include:
Grade 5
Day 1 and 2 Puberty and changes during puberty
Day 3-5 anatomy and physiology
Day 6 Trusted adult, stereotypes respect for al people
Grade 8
Day 1 and 2 Anatomy and physiology
Day 3 Reproduction/fertilization
Day 4 and 5 pregnancy and fetal development
Day 6-8 STD’s, contraception
Day 9 Personal care (self exams)
Day 10 consent, relationship safety and online safety
Day 11 dignity and respect for all people
Day 12 wrap up / post test
